Applications of AI in Games, Summer Term 2025

Overview

In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) has seen significant growth in its applications within the gaming industry. From AI systems outperforming humans in complex games like Chess, Go, and StarCraft, to enhancing game development processes in titles like Minecraft, the role of AI is rapidly evolving. In this lab, each student group will tackle a challenge from the Conference on Games 2024 Competitions (https://2024.ieee-cog.org/competitions/). Groups will select a research paper that aligns with their chosen challenge and use its methods or insights to develop a solution. The topics include procedural content generation, reinforcement learning and more. This hands-on lab aims to deepen students' understanding of cutting-edge AI techniques and their practical applications in gaming.
